Everything else in the swimsuit I seamed together with the serger, but not the elastic. The elastic I would stitch down, the fold over and stitch again so it wasn't showing.

Someone once told me elastic causes problems in a serger and you have to use a special foot, but I can't remember why now!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07671918386628691376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1522513576255574176.post-54639761991941088032016-01-10T14:59:30.799-05:002016-01-10T14:59:30.799-05:00I came across this post today and wish I found it ...I came across this post today and wish I found it earlier! I have been using a normal sewing machine for my swimsuits but I just bought a serger. With my Singer sewing mahcine, I was using rubber swimsuit elastic and it was skipping so many stitches. With my serger, the elastic wno't feed through at all! I think the elastic is getting stuck on the presser foot. Any suggestions?
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02047456754513977068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1522513576255574176.post-61497733463129635682013-08-19T13:59:38.552-04:002013-08-19T13:59:38.552-04:00I use a zig zag stitch on my jersey clothing all t...I use a zig zag stitch on my jersey clothing all the time and I've never had any problems with it, but yes, the swimsuit really needs a serger imo!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07671918386628691376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1522513576255574176.post-5029345977331752462013-08-18T00:57:53.084-04:002013-08-18T00:57:53.084-04:00Yes, for my swimsuit, I was following the directio...Yes, for my swimsuit, I was following the directions that said to use a zig zag stitch, then realized, 'hey, I can serge this', and when I did the difference was REALLY noticeable. Especially for something that stretches as much as a swimsuit, you can really notice the zig zag. For something like a flowy knit dress, probably not as essential to use the serger. My fabric was in the swimwear/lycra section so it's a toss-up as to what I actually purchased.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07671918386628691376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1522513576255574176.post-20412331753655336092013-08-17T09:29:54.525-04:002013-08-17T09:29:54.525-04:00I was wondering if shortening the stitch would hel...I was wondering if shortening the stitch would help or even doing a satin stitch, but I wasn't sure!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07671918386628691376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1522513576255574176.post-13660541362997214022013-08-17T09:29:31.379-04:002013-08-17T09:29:31.379-04:00Ooh, thanks for the tip with the iron!Ooh, thanks for the tip with the iron!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07671918386628691376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1522513576255574176.post-62208486873434070312013-08-17T09:17:21.904-04:002013-08-17T09:17:21.904-04:00I didn't experience any rolling with my fabric...I didn't experience any rolling with my fabric- did you use nylon spandex? However, I did find that setting my zig zag stitch to the shortest stitch length to help smooth the shoddy finish I got with it at regular length. Again, I love your suit and think you did great with the stripe placement.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16257329040960146452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1522513576255574176.post-29308872797352425832013-08-17T03:10:43.350-04:002013-08-17T03:10:43.350-04:00thanks for the tips, sergers are must when sewing ...thanks for the tips, sergers are must when sewing with knits,I also find the straight stretch stitch the best way to hem knits ,tip if your hem is wavy iron it, then it should lay perfectly flat.M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03753897595344208316noreply@blogger.com
